Looking at the rich tradition of art, from the early 20th century to the present, in which writing sheds its communicative function and pursues the inarticulable, Writing by Drawing explores the fertile tension between the semantic and the uncharted territory of automatism, mark-making and scribbles–the “asemic.”

Andrea Bellini is an Italian and Swiss curator and contemporary art critic based in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2012, he is director of the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, and artistic director of the Biennial of Moving Images
The art historian Sarah Lombardi has been the fully-fledged director of the Collection de l’Art Brut since March 2013. Immediately upon taking over as the museum’s director, Sarah Lombardi gave priority to highlighting the museum’s collections: this included the creation of a new publication series entitled Art Brut: The Collection intended to accompany the Art Brut Biennales.
