Helping to reimagine the engagement of Persian calligraphy within a contemporary art discourse, this title follows a prolific career, examining work that has been exhibited across the world in solo and group presentations and produced across varied media.
This self-titled publication includes critical commentary and essays from such noted experts as Dr Maryam Ekhtiar, Associate Curator, the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Dr Shiva Balaghi, independent scholar based in LA; and Ben Eastham, Associate Editor of ArtReview and founder of The White Review.
About the Artist
Born in Mashhad, Iran, Jinchi became attuned early in life to the ways architecture, objects, decoration and the written word can be imbued with symbolic power. This awareness is threaded throughout her body of work, which explores the dense intersectionality of literary and pictorial narratives. Her attention to methodology stems from a background as a mathematician; her formal approach reflects a creative tension between the rigid control of traditional Islamic calligraphy and the fluid spontaneity of Western abstract painting.
