People from the Rathwa tribe in Gujarat create ritual wall paintings considered a form of reverence, keeping away ill-luck and inviting good fortune. To paint is to mirror—and honour—all that has been created in the universe.

Harsingh Hamir is a contemporary Rathwa artist. Though traditionally, Rathwa artists paint a ritual mural called Pithora, several contemporary artists have taken new directions. Harsingh is one of them and was happy to apply his talent and skills in illustrating books.
Gita Wolf started Tara Books as an independent publishing house based in India. An original and creative voice in contemporary Indian publishing, she is known for her interest in exploring and experimenting with the form of the book.
