This September 2021 marks the launch of Jameel Arts Centre’s Mindful Making sessions, which are designed to bring to the forefront the art of old-fashioned hands-on making, with benefits ranging from a slow-down in pace and the single pointed concentration characteristic of meditation, to the creative and now-rare sensory stimulation our daily lives often lack.
Kicking off the Mindful Making series of workshops is Ti Seymour, leading a series of two one-off beginner-level sessions inspired by Pacita Abad’s textile-rich artworks, wherein participants will have the opportunity to create their own colourful wall hanging to take home.
The first session, taking place on Saturday September 25, focusses on the trapunto embroidery technique. Learn how to use inktense pencils and blocks to transform an embroidered fabric pattern into an adorned piece of inspired wall art with a 3D effect. Participants are encouraged to bring their own aprons with them to this session.
This workshop will be led in English. Pre-booking is encouraged as spots are limited.
The second session in this series, which is equally inspired by Pacita Abad’s work, specifically her vibrant underwater abstract scenes, takes place on Saturday October 16, and is centered around the meditative craft and art form of punch needle embroidery.
