Telli is considered one of the most cherished forms of embroidery in the United Arab Emirates and entails hand-braiding the metallic and silk threads that traditionally adorn Emirati women’s clothing. This is done on a tool called a kajojah, which consists of a cushion held on a metal base and used to hold the thread in place. In the past, real silver was used in Telli embroidery, while today a metallic thread is used instead.
