The letters ‘ ENOC ‘ were painted onto the boulder’s surface by employees of the gas station, transforming it into a pseudo landmark. The work serves as a souvenir that puts into focus Dubai’s instrumentalization of its landscape and over-branded aesthetic. Came all the way to almost look at this shrine which is the enoc rock, how a big boulder is removed from its native place and is now assimilating as a part of the petrol stations franchise.
About the Artist
Mohamed Khalid is an artist walking, running, cycling and driving. He explores mundane experiences and interactions through meticulous gestures of drawing receipts, photographing sunsets, routine patrolling and stealing corporate pense. He is an alumnus of programs Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship and Campus Art Dubai 7.0 with a previous show at Art Dubai, Warehouse 421 and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
