Re:Emerge Towards a New Cultural Cartography’ brought together artists, architects and musicians to reflect on themes of identity, migration, trade, cultural influence and synthesis.
In this publication, Hoor Al Qasimi introduces the Biennial as a major cultural component of the Emirate’s past and future, followed by Yuko Hasegawa’s curatorial text contextualising the works selected as part of Sharjah Biennial 11. The book includes a detailed list of all the artists participating in the Biennial and illustrations of their work. The last section of the book explains works that were part of Sharjah Biennial’s 11 music and performance programme.
About the Editors
Nikki Columbus was Executive Editor at Parkett and an Associate Editor at Artforum. Between these two editorial posts, she was a Curator at Townhouse Gallery, a nonprofit arts space in Cairo.
Samer Abu Hawwash is a prolific writer, poet and translator with two novels and nine poetry collections of his own so far.
