Abbas Akhavan’s practice ranges from site-specific ephemeral installations to drawing, video, sculpture and performance. The domestic sphere, as a forked space between hospitality and hostility, has been an ongoing area of research in his practice. More recent works have shifted focus, wandering onto spaces just outside the home – the garden, the backyard, and other domesticated landscapes.

Akhavan’s Study for a Garden is among the works in the Art Jameel Collection, and he was among the 18 artists and collectives whose works were included in the 'Second Hand' exhibition at Jameel Arts Centre from July 3 to November 23, 2019.

The Douglas Hyde Gallery is a space for challenging and ambitious art, producing and commissioning contemporary art, supporting international and Irish artists to make bold new work and presenting pivotal solo exhibitions by significant artists of the present and the future. Through risk-taking and experimentation, the Gallery challenges audiences and profoundly engages them through its exhibitions, artist projects, artist talks, events, screenings and publications.

Francisco-Fernando Granados is a Toronto-based artist. His multidisciplinary critical practice spans performance, installation, cultural theory, digital media, public art and community-based projects.

Georgina Jackson is an author, lecturer and the Director of The Douglas Hyde Gallery. She has previously held roles as the Exhibitions Curator at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, Project Curator at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and was a curator-in-residence at the Mattress Factory Art Museum, Pittsburgh.

Irish Museum of Modern Art is Ireland's leading national institution for the collection and presentation of modern and contemporary art. Located in Kilmainham, Dublin, the Museum presents a wide variety of art in a changing programme of exhibitions, which regularly includes bodies of work from its own collection and its education and community department. It also aims to create more widespread access to art and artists through its studio and national programmes.
