Art Jameel
Sharjah Biennial 8 Catalogue: Still Life, Part I
This idea was delineated in the catalogue through project descriptions and essays that questioned—and sometimes measured—the impact of human geography on the planet in economic, social, environmental, and political terms.
The book begins with notes by Director Hoor Al Qasimi and Artistic Director Jack Persekian, followed by curatorial essays by Mohammad Kazem, Eva Scharrer, and Jonathan Watkins. The next section contains essays exploring the theme of art and ecology, followed by project descriptions and photographic documentation of the artworks featured in the Biennial. Contributors to the essays include Hisham Al Madhloum, Mona El-Mousfy, Serene Huleileh, Munir Fasheh, Manish Jain, Francesco Manacorda, Akiko Miki, Trevor Smith, and Raimar Stange.
