A popular lore based in Oman tells the tale of King Solomon’s travels to the abandoned castle of Salut in Oman to seek shelter on his journey to Jerusalem. Upon his arrival, he found an uninhabitable desert. As a result, he ordered his demons to build the Aflaj, the water irrigation system, to make the land habitable.

This poster challenges that myth, which discredits the ingenuity and hard work of the rural Omani farmers who built the Aflaj, reminding the viewer that society teaches us to overlook the contributions of rural groups because of the socio-cultural preconceptions that privilege urban over rural regions.
