This catalogue is dedicated to Shawky's research on the history of the Crusades told from the point of view of the Arabs, a theme for which the artist has created environments, films, sculptures and drawings. Shawky's works shed new light on the roots of some of today's grave cultural and socio-political crises.

Created on the occasion of the solo exhibition at the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, the catalogue includes a new artist's project consisting of drawings created in dialogue with Heinrich von Kleist's essay On the Marionette Theater (1810); new contributions by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Laura Marks; and a conversation between Marcella Beccaria and the artist.

The anthological section collects texts by Hoor Al-Qasimi, Cesar Garcia and more, as well as the curators and the artist.
