Participating artists were asked to present a conversation with one or more interlocutor, living or dead, imaginary or real.

Sectioned by the geographies that reference the location of artworks throughout the venues in Sharjah, this catalogue includes a series of spoken, recorded, transcribed, written, emailed, edited and translated conversations and interviews. It also includes previously-existing as well as newly-commissioned essays, excerpts, maps, curatorial and editorial missives, artists’ statements and manifestos. They weave together actors, players, plotters and their work for this Biennial.

Ghalya Saadawi is a Lecturer at the Centre for Research Architecture in the department of visual cultures at Goldsmiths University, London, and has been a theory tutor at the Dutch Art Institute since 2018.

Award-winning artist and writer Ismail Al Rifai has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally.

Sharjah Art Foundation hosts numerous activities and events throughout the year, from exhibitions featuring the work of Arab and international artists, live music and performances to film screenings and artist talks as well as extensive art education programmes for children, adults and families. Additionally, the Foundation has over the years published a range of books that include Sharjah Biennial and exhibition catalogues, books about the March Meetings and limited-edition artists' publications.
