Shah (b 1959, British Indian) was born in Aden (Yemen) when it was a British colony and part of the Aden Protectorate. His family emigrated to Bombay before the British left in 1967 and a Marxist-Leninist paramilitary group seized power to form the government of the new People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen.
